Understanding MSDS/SDS
- MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): This is a document that provides information on the properties of a chemical product, its physical, health, and environmental health effects, protective measures, and safety precautions for handling, storing, and transporting it.
- SDS (Safety Data Sheet): This is the newer, internationally standardized version of the MSDS, following the GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals).
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Sodium Carbonate (30–80%): Used for alkalinity control and pH adjustment to protect metal surfaces.
Please Note: This post is for informational and training purposes only. Chemical handling requires site-specific training and adherence to local regulations. Always refer to the current, official SDS provided by your authorized Nalco Water (Ecolab) representative.
: Wear standard protective clothing; wash immediately with soap and water if contact occurs. Respiratory
Pre-Installation Safety Checklist (Based on MSDS)
- [ ] Verify PPE availability: face shield, acid-resistant gloves (neoprene), rubber apron, chemical goggles.
- [ ] Ensure eyewash and safety shower are tested and within 10 seconds of the installation point.
- [ ] Post "Caustic/Chemical – Wear PPE" signage.
- [ ] Confirm that the storage area is cool, dry, and away from direct sunlight and incompatible materials (bleach, ammonia, strong bases).
