Soundplant Review: The Keyboard Sampler That Refuses to Die (Or Glitch)
Version Reviewed: 48.10 (latest stable) Platform: Windows / macOS (Universal) Price: Free (limited to 40 keys) / $69.00 USD (Unlimited license)
- Windows:
%APPDATA%\Soundplant\→ deleteconfig.xml - Mac:
~/Library/Preferences/com.soundplant.Soundplant.plist
On Windows 11:
- The Fix: Navigate to the
Soundplant.exefile → Properties → Compatibility → Run this program as an administrator. Also set it to "Windows 8" compatibility mode. - Why this works: Windows 11's power management aggressively puts USB audio devices to sleep. Admin rights allow Soundplant to prevent this sleep state.
Not For:
- Beatmakers: No sequencer, no swing, no MIDI export. Use a DAW.
- Orchestral sampling: No velocity layers, no articulation switching.
- Aesthetic purists: The interface is genuinely painful to look at.
For DJs, theatre operators, installation artists, and lo-fi producers, the goal is often not to play expressively with finger weight (which a keyboard cannot sense anyway), but to trigger the right sound at the right level every single time. By mastering the Fixed velocity parameter, you turn a $10 USB keyboard into a professional, predictable, and powerful sample-launching workstation. soundplant fixed
