  1. The Pops of 2019: "The Dance of the Golden Snake" was the most played piece, but judges noted that because it is so common, it was harder to achieve "Accomplished" due to comparison fatigue.
  2. The Dark Horse: "Tune of the Fishing Boat at Dusk" made a surprising comeback in the secondary category. Schools that played this slow, melancholic piece successfully demonstrated superior bow control.
  3. The Challenge Piece: "The Terracotta Warriors" (selections) was attempted by only three schools due to its complex 6/8 time signatures and abrupt dynamic shifts. Only Dunman High pulled it off at an Accomplished level.
