Symantec Procomm Plus 4.8.zip ❲2025-2027❳

Symantec Procomm Plus 4.8 is a classic 32-bit communications package designed for legacy Windows systems (Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, and 2000). It is widely recognized as the final version of this integrated software suite. Solid Key Features

serial1=directserial realport:COM3

Dialing and modem control:

  1. SETUP.EXE – The classic 16-bit installer. No progress bar, just a blue background and a question about which COM port your 14.4k modem is on.
  2. ASPECT.DLL – The scripting engine. Procomm Plus had a powerful language called ASPECT (a derivative of SALT). Power users wrote scripts to automatically download files from BBSs at 2:00 AM when phone rates were cheapest.
  3. PHONES.DIR – The phonebook. An empty template, but in a live install, this file held the phone numbers and baud rates for every BBS in your local area code.
  4. TERMINAL.EXE – The core app. It supported ANSI, VT100, and even Tektronix 4010 graphics.
  5. README.TXT – Last modified October 1996. It contains warnings about "Y2K readiness" (spoiler: they released a patch) and a note about how to configure your Hayes-compatible modem.
  1. Copyright – Procomm Plus 4.8 is copyrighted software (Symantec, ~1995–1998). You should only download/use it if you have a valid license or it’s explicitly released as abandonware for historical use (which doesn’t change legal status, but some archives host it for retrocomputing).
  2. No direct file links – I cannot provide a download link or hash for the ZIP file.
  3. Running it today – Works well under DOSBox, Windows 3.x/9x virtual machines, or even 32-bit Windows (with COM port emulation). On 64-bit Windows, you’ll need a virtual serial port solution (e.g., com0com).
  • Full – all terminal emulations, scripts, protocols
  • Custom – omit languages, rarely used emulations (e.g., Wyse, TVI)

9.2 Garbage characters on screen

  • Mismatched baud rate or parity. Press Alt+S → set 8N1 or 7E1.
  • Wrong emulation: Switch to ANSI or VT100.
  • Automate logins with scripts: wait for login prompt, send username, wait for password prompt, send password, etc.
  • Example pseudocode macro:

    : Reports vary; while some users have success, others encounter system crashes when disconnecting via modem on 64-bit architecture. Legacy Hardware Symantec Procomm Plus 4.8.zip
