UMAX Astra 3600 is a legacy scanner, and finding a functional driver for Windows 10
Select Microsoft as the manufacturer and choose USB scanner device.
Find the scanner under "Other devices" or "Imaging devices" (it may have a yellow exclamation mark).
- Connect the scanner via USB to your Windows 10 PC. Use a USB 2.0 port (backward compatible) if possible.
- Turn on the scanner and wait for Windows to attempt automatic driver installation. It will fail, but that’s expected.
- Open Device Manager (right-click Start button > Device Manager).
- Look for the scanner under Imaging Devices – it may appear as “Unknown device” or “UMAX Astra 3600” with a yellow exclamation mark.
- Right-click the device and select Update driver.
- Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
- Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Scroll down and select Imaging devices.
- From the manufacturer list, select Microsoft.
- In the right pane, select Windows Fax and Scan or USB Scanner (the exact name varies by Windows build).
- Click Next. Windows will install the generic driver.
- Restart your PC.
Right-click it and select Update driver > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list.
- Plug in the scanner.
- Open Device Manager (Right-click Start button > Device Manager).
- Look for the scanner (it may appear under "Other devices" with a yellow triangle).
- Right-click the device and select Update driver.
- Select "Browse my computer for drivers."
- Select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer."
- Click "Have Disk" and browse to the folder where you extracted the UMAX files. Select the
.inffile.
Update via Microsoft Generic Drivers: Open Device Manager, locate the scanner (often marked with a yellow exclamation point), right-click and select Update Driver. Choose "Browse my computer" and "Let me pick from a list." Instead of a specific brand, select Microsoft and then USB scanner device to attempt a generic connection.
