    VMware Unlocker 3.0.4: The Ultimate Guide to Running macOS on VMware

    Introduction: The Quest for macOS Virtualization

    For decades, VMware Workstation (on Windows/Linux) and VMware Fusion (on macOS) have been the gold standards for x86 virtualization. However, users have long faced a significant wall: By default, VMware products do not support installing macOS as a guest operating system on non-Apple hardware (or even on Apple hardware within certain configurations).

    Close VMware: Ensure all VMware processes and background services are shut down. Extract Files: Unzip the Unlocker 3.0.4 archive.

  • Add macOS ISO – you must obtain a legitimate macOS installer (.iso or .dmg converted to ISO)
  • Before first boot – Edit VMX file (add if missing):
    smc.version = "0"

  • Alternatively, run as Administrator in CMD:
    net stop vmwareauthd
    net stop vmwarehostd
    net stop "VMware NAT Service"

    • macOS Sonoma (14.x) and newer (use Unlocker 4.x instead)
    • Apple M1/M2 guests on ARM hosts (architecture mismatch)
